The members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences who voted for Melissa Leo over Hailee Steinfeld in the Supporting Actress category were either drunk and/or high. No disrespect to Leo and her performance in The Fighter, but Steinfeld's performance in True Grit was more deserving of the Oscar. Her portrayal of Mattie Ross projects so much strength, wisdom, and maturity that it's easy to forget she's only 14 years old. It takes talent to pull that off.
I haven't yet seen "The Fighter", but I agree that Steinfeld was briliant in "True Grit". She has a very promising future.
